Repair & Restoration
Four decades of restoring the irreplaceable
Reweaving, fringe and edge repair, moth damage, color restoration — performed by hand, matched to the original materials and techniques. Every restoration begins with a free assessment.
Small damage does not stay small
A loose edge will eventually unravel the foundation; a minor tear spreads each time the rug is walked on. Restoration begins with a careful inspection of the fibers, weave, foundation, fringe, and edges — the rug is evaluated as a whole, not just where the damage shows.
Watch for thinning in traffic areas, fraying fringe, curling edges, or moth activity. Even if damage looks minor, early evaluation usually means a simpler, less costly repair. A hand washing beforehand often reveals the rug’s true condition.
Why hand restoration, not DIY
Authentic rugs are woven knot by knot from natural materials. Household thread, adhesives, and standard sewing methods are not made for them — a well-intentioned repair can weaken the structure and reduce the rug’s collector value. Hand restoration blends with the original weave, so the repair disappears into the rug.
Afterward
For insurance, estates, or resale, an updated certified appraisal documents the restored rug’s condition and value. And if your room needs a rug while yours is in our care, ask about rentals.
